Coach Parker Blog – Youth Football Coaching Tips

Welcome to Coach Parker’s Coaching Youth Football Zone. Check out my new blog about coaching youth football at CoachParker.org and forum at Youth Football Coaching Tips.

I began coaching youth football back in 1994, before I had kids. I coached for theCoach Parker – Youth Football Coaching Plano Sports Authority and was the Assistant Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator of the Plano Sports Authority’s (PSA) Coaching Staff of the Year in 1994. I coached my oldest son’s team many years in Arvada Colorado. He played for the Arvada Midget Football Association, which is part of the Jeffco Midget Football Association. I was also a member of the AMFA Coaches Committee. In Fall 2009 I was the offensive line coach for the Keller Hurricanes Junior Select team with the Keller Youth Association in Keller, Texas. In the Spring of 2010 I coached a Spring Football team at KYA and in the Fall of 2010 I was the Defensive Coordinator for the TSOF Keller Raiders 4th and 6th grade Select teams.

I am currently the Assistant Coach / Offensive Coordinator for the KYA Oilers Bantam team which won the KYA A Bracket Bantam Spring Super Bowl 2011. What a great season.

I grew up in Texas living and breathing football. I started playing football in 3rd grade for the Spring Branch YMCA, just Northwest of Houston and continued playing through High School. In High School, I played for one of the best Coaches in Texas High School football history, Ron Schroeder. But, I learned how to be a youth football coach from my Pee Wee Coach, John Lewis. Coach Lewis coached the Spring Branch YMCA Dad’s Club Bulldogs, and we were undefeated for many years and played at Rice stadium for the YMCA Houston City Championships in 1973. We won 40-7.

I am a huge Dallas Cowboys football fan. I think Tom Landry’s Cowboys were some of the finest teams that Dallas put on the field. I also follow the Titans, since they are the old Houston Oilers and now that I live outside of Denver, I am a Broncos fan. I graduated from Texas A&M, so I hope for divine intervention for the Fightin Texas Aggie football team each season, maybe soon. We have a new coach this season, so Gig’em Ags.

What is my philosophy as a youth football coach? Well, I am old school. If you do not set high expectations for your players then you should not be coaching. People will rise to your expectations. If you set the bar too low, then your players will always be crawling and not walking. I want my players running and scoring. I set the bar high, just above where I think my top players are at that season. I am always surprised at how much kids will achieve when you challenge them to push toward a tough goal. So, expect more or suffer the loss.

I am passionate about coaching youth football, that’s why I am starting these websites to consolidate coaching information for youth football coaches into an easy and useful web portal. The blog and forums will grow with your input, so don’t be shy. Share your knowledge along with me, so we can further our beloved sport, football.

You can also help support my team by visiting my football book store at the link below. It is an Amazon.com powered store. Or you can visit Championship Productions below and check out all the cool football videos. I highly recommend a subscription to American Football Monthly.
